Class Descriptions & Dress Codes

Absolutely NO Tummies Showing in any classes! Leotard and tights required for most classes. Hip Hop does not require a leotard but tummies must be covered.

Movement

Ages 2 - 4 yrs. 30 min class. A creative, ballet based dance class designed to introduce the students to the beginning skills needed for all forms of dance. Emphasis placed upon enhancing body awareness, motor skills, and balance. Themes, fun music and props create a magical atmosphere for the young dancers! Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Skirt or tutu allowed. Pink ballet slippers. Hair should be pulled back off face.

 

Ballet/ Tap Combo

 

Ages 5 - 7 yrs. A class designed to build off the skills learned from Movement. Basic Ballet and Tap techniques are taught and built upon throughout the year. One half of class is ballet and the other half is tap! Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Skirt or tutu allowed. Pink ballet slippers, black tap shoes. Hair should be pulled back off face. 

Ballet I, II, III

Ages 7 yrs. & up. A disciplined dance form which is the core of all dance. Ballet creates poise, strength, flexibility and coordination in the body. It is highly recommended for students studying other dance forms as it will increase their progress. Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan or black tights. Wrap skirt allowed (tutus and shorts prohibited). Pink ballet slippers. Hair should be pulled back off face. Buns preferred.

Modern/Contemporary

Students must be enrolled in Ballet Level III.  

Modern dance is a concert art form that was born out of the rebellion against the restraints of classical ballet.  It explores the use of fluid spirals, contractions, and weight to create unique patterns, spatial arrangements, and expression of ideas. Techniques from the 5 Schools of Modern Dance are taught: Dunham Technique, Graham Technique, Horton Technique, Humphrey/Limon Technique and Cunningham Technique.

 

Contemporary dance is not a technique, but a style that emerged as an outgrowth of Modern Dance.  It fuses the techniques of ballet, modern, jazz, as well as other influences such as acrobatics in order to express an idea.  

 

Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Wrap skirt allowed. Jazz/yoga pants or shorts also allowed over leotard and tights. Barefoot. Hair should be pulled back off face.

Jazz

Ages 7 yrs. & up. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Jazz pants, leggings or shorts allowed over leotard and tights. Tan Jazz Shoe. Hair should be pulled back off face. 

Tap

Ages 7 yrs. & up. Metal plates are attached to the bottoms of shoes to create sound. Precise rhythmical patterns, music theory, and foot movement are studied to make the performer not only a dancer, but a percussive musician. Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Jazz pants, leggings or shorts allowed over leotard and tights. Black tap shoes (no high heeled tap shoes). Hair should be pulled back off face. 

 

Hip Hop (includes Tiny Hop)

Ages 7 yrs & up. A high-energy class designed to teach urban style combinations. Have fun learning the latest hot street moves while creating a strong foundation and core strength.

Tumbling/Tiny Hop: ages 3 yrs. to 6 yrs. 

Dress code: Form-fitting tank/t-shirt. Jazz/Sweat pants, leggings or shorts. Tennis shoes. Hair should be pulled back off face. 

Acro/Tumbling

Ages 3 yrs. & up. This class is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline and confidence. Classes focus on proper hand placement and body alignment with emphasis on the muscles and flexibility required to perform proper technique. 

 

Tumbling/Tiny Hop: ages 3 yrs. to 6 yrs.

Open Acro: ages 7 yrs. and up
Advanced Acro: *Front and Back Limber Required 

 

Dress code: Leotard, shorts, bare feet (tights optional). Hair should be pulled back off face.

Lyrical

Ages 7 yrs & up. Lyrical dance is not a technique, but a style.  It is a style similar to contemporary dance, and sometimes can be hard to tell the difference between the two styles.  Lyrical dance is based off of 3 dance techniques - ballet, jazz, and modern, and its purpose is to portray the lyrics or message of a song through movement.   

Dress code: Leotard. Pink, tan, or black tights. Jazz pants, leggings or shorts allowed over leotard and tights. Lyrical shoes. Hair should be pulled back off face.

Boy's Dress Code

Form fitting tank/t-shirt. Athletic pants or shorts. Black ballet, tap and jazz shoes.

NOTE: SHOES MAY BE FITTED AND ORDERED AT STUDIO.  PLEASE CHECK WITH MRS MORGAN TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT SHOE FOR YOUR CLASS BEFORE PURCHASING.
